 East Orange became a separate township on March 4, 1863, the first election being held in Timothy W Mulford's wheelwright shop on the south side of Main Street, between Walnut and Burnet Streets, on April 16 1863.

 about 165 years ago when European and French-Canadian settlers began farming in this area. Prior to this time, the land was inhabited by the Dakota Indians with occasional visits by French and English fur traders and explorers. 

 Founded in 1870 by Sylvester Johnson and Jacob Julian, Irvington was originally created as a suburban town of Indianapolis. 

 What is now South Orange was part of a territory purchased from the Lenape Native Americans in 1666 by Robert Treat, who founded Newark that year on the banks of the Passaic River. 

 Originally land of the Poquonocks, the area was first settled in 1660 as part of Windsor, organized as the Parish of Wintonbury in 1736 from the towns of Windsor, Farmington, and Simsbury, and finally incorporated as the town of Bloomfield in May of 1835.
